    Who can attend?

The Recorders’ Conference is suitable for anyone who considers themselves to be a botanical recorder. It is attended by BSBI County Recorders and National Referees, but is open to any member and even to non-members. You might find it incomprehensible if you do know know plants by their scientific names, so feel free to ask us if we think it is suitable for you. But it is ideal for keen botanists in govenment agencies and Wildlife Trusts or consultancies, or for ecologists based in Universities.

Students (usually MSc or PhD students) are welcome to attend, and can apply for bursaries from our Training & Education Committee to help cover the costs. There are poster displays for you to show off your work.

    Booking

The cost is £200 (£100 if non-resident), payable in advance (not refundable if you cancel after the end of June).

For two people sharing a twin room, the price is £360.

Arrive at The Gateway, Chester Street, Shrewsbury around midday on Friday 17th September. Lunch is then followed by an afternoon of talks, and the a coach takes delegates to Preston Montford for an evening meal and workshops.

If you aim to come by car, you can leave it at Preston Montford in the morning and get a lift into town. Otherwise, there is parking in Shrewsbury (cheapest and closest is the railway station car park in Howard Street).

On Saturday there are talks and debates all day at The Gateway, followed by an evening at Preston Montford as before.

On Sunday will be the field test for those taking part in the FISC, or a choice of workshops or a field visit (without being tested!).

Non-residents attend all the talks and workshops and have the lunches and dinners, but they arrange their own accommodation and breakfasts. Prices for local B&Bs start from about £35 per night, and there are several within walking distance of The Gateway (but unfortunately, none very close to Preston Montford).
