The BSBI surveys the whole of Britain and Ireland regularly to plot the distribution of vascular plants and charophytes. This distribution data is used in academic studies into ecology and climate change, as the basis of conservation designations and to guide planning decisions. It is even used in crime scene investigation.
You can take part in our recording by contacting county recorders and local groups or by participating directly in one of our national surveys. Serious botanical recording does require good identification skills. Other sections of this web site show how you can go on training courses, buy the right ID guides, attend field meetings and come to our conferences, all of which can help you get involved.
